New Faculty Announcement: Iwan Russell-Jones

Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Head of Christianity and the Arts Program

Vancouver, BC, Canada, May 4, 2011— Dr. Iwan Russell-Jones, an award-winning filmmaker, theologian, and writer, will join Regent College on August 1, 2011, as Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and Head of the Christianity and the Arts Program.

"It is a unique opportunity when a graduate school is able to add expertise in theology, filmmaking, radio and TV producing and directing, as well as experience in media and culture," states Regent College President Rod Wilson. "And when this combination is found in one person, it makes us thankful to God for his provision of Iwan and eager to see the impact he will have on Regent's historical commitment to the arts."

Dr. Russell-Jones has over 25 years of experience as a producer and director for the BBC, in both television and radio. He produced documentaries that include The Crucified King (BBC1 2003) andAmerican Prophet (BBC2 2008), which explore the religious dimensions of Martin Luther King Jr.'s leadership of the civil rights movement; and Who Do You Say I Am? (BBC1 2007), which features poet Michael Symmons Roberts reflecting on the contemporary meaning of the life of Christ. In addition, Dr. Russell-Jones has had the privilege of working with South African activist and Christian cleric, Dr. Desmond Tutu; Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury; and leading Christian apologists and authors, Malcolm and Kitty Muggeridge.

Dr. Russell-Jones holds a BA (Hons.) in Theology from the London School of Theology, a Master of Theology from the University of Aberdeen, and a Doctor of Philosophy from theUniversity of Oxford. For four years, he taught at Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, where he set up a new department to explore the interaction between faith, media, and contemporary culture.

Paul Williams, Regent College Academic Dean, is also pleased with the appointment: "We are delighted that Dr. Russell-Jones is joining our interdisciplinary faculty.
