It is with great sadness that Regent College conveys the news that Laurel Gasque, who with her husband Ward was one of Regent's key founders, has died.
Many members of Regent’s community knew Laurel, and understand how deeply she loved Regent and how much she contributed in many ways over many decades. The College’s atrium is named in honour of Ward and Laurel, and also Carl and Betsy Armerding, to permanently recognize what these families have done to create our community and establish our traditions of valuing friendship, hospitality, and mentoring.
In particular, Laurel was a pioneer and persistent champion of the arts at Regent. An art historian and author of a book on Hans Rookmaaker, alongside longtime Regent staff member Dal Schindell, she did so much to foster Regent's vision for serious Christian engagement with the arts.
