The Church and the World Need Regent. And Regent Needs You.

Regent’s 2024–25 fiscal year ends on April 30. Before that date, the College needs to raise $250,000 (CAD) to finish well and prepare to welcome next year’s students. In the following letter, President Jeff Greenman reflects on the value of Regent’s approach to theological education for the church and the world, as well as the vital importance of donors in making this work possible.

As I write my final appeal letter as Regent’s President, I want to tell you what an honour, a privilege, and a blessing it has been to serve in this capacity. I want to tell you that Regent has never been more important to Christ’s church and his world. And I want to tell you that Regent needs your financial support.
During my time at Regent, I have seen the transformative power of theological education. In particular, I’ve seen how lives are changed by theological education that forms whole persons—that engages heads, hearts, and hands in the love of God and neighbour.
That’s the kind of education I received at Regent in the 1980s, and that’s the kind of education I’ve watched Regent students receive since I returned in 2013. That’s the kind of theological education the world needs in the years to come.
-
A world of unprecedented ethical challenges needs people who are rooted in God’s word and able to apply eternal truths in new circumstances.
-
A world obsessed with appearances, sound bites, and snap judgements needs people who look past the surface to pursue wisdom with holy curiosity.
- A world where many are tempted to despair needs people who are steadfast in hope and strengthened by the joy of the Lord.
I see these people being formed by God’s work at Regent College. In short, the church and the world need Regent people. And Regent people need you.
Ten years ago, Regent was experiencing a financial crisis. By God’s grace and through the help of our exceedingly generous community, the College is in a better place today. But we still need your help. As important as Regent is for the church and the world, it is flying against significant headwinds.
Regent is not backed by a particular denomination or church network. Its transdenominational identity is a great strength, but it also leaves the school especially vulnerable to economic challenges. Your generosity is absolutely critical for Regent’s continued work.
I will also note that Regent’s Christmas fundraising campaign was adversely affected by this winter’s Canada Post strike. While we are deeply grateful for the generosity Regent received, we did experience a shortfall in year-end giving. Regent needs to raise $250,000 by the end of our fiscal year on April 30. That makes your response today all the more important.
Every year, God brings remarkable students into the Regent community—students who do hard, sacrificial work as they follow Christ. Every day, my colleagues and I see God at work in these students. Regent is a good place for them. Regent is a good place because of them. And the world will be a better place because of who they are and how they respond to Christ’s call.
These are the Regent people I know. These are the Regent people who need you. They need your prayers. They need your voice telling others about Regent’s mission. They need your financial help to turn passion and conviction into tangible reality.
Regent relies on God to provide for our needs. Often, crucially, he provides through you. Your participation in God’s provision makes Regent’s mission possible.
So, if you are able, and as the Spirit leads, would you make a gift today?
