Regent College is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Wendel as a Postdoctoral Fellow in New Testament Studies for the 2026–27 academic year.
Academic Dean Jerry Hwang warmly welcomed Jason's appointment. "Regent is blessed to have Jason Wendel as a postdoc! He brings a strong profile as a New Testament scholar to go with his prior experiences as a teacher and university chaplain. Our students will enjoy learning from him."
Jason’s research interests include contextualizing New Testament texts as products of Second Temple Judaism and examining their early reception and contributions to the development of Christian theology in the second century. He is currently working on a project examining the introduction of natural law theory into Christian thought.
Regent’s New Testament faculty look forward to welcoming Jason to the Regent community. Part of his role will be to cover the teaching of Associate Professor of New Testament Mariam Kamell Kovalishyn as she undertakes a year of parental leave. Mariam said, "I am delighted that Jason Wendel will be covering my leave next year. He has strong academic training and pastoral gifts that will be a great gift to the students fortunate enough to be mentored by him."
Marshall Sheppard Professor of Biblical Studies George Guthrie shared Mariam’s enthusiasm, adding that Jason’s “expertise in Luke-Acts will offer our students a rich learning opportunity.”
Jason grew up on the Canadian prairies, where he earned a BA in Biblical Studies and an MA in Biblical Languages and Exegesis from Briercrest College and Seminary. He recently completed his PhD in Theology and Religion (New Testament) at the University of Cambridge. He currently lives in Montreal, where his wife Julie is working on her PhD in Literature at McGill University.
Jason said that he and Julie are looking forward to a season in Vancouver. “I am grateful to Regent for offering me this postdoctoral teaching fellowship. Regent’s unique interdisciplinary ethos and commitment to the communal aspect of education are exciting: I cannot think of a better setting to develop as an academic, teacher, and follower of Christ. Julie and I cannot wait to join this community for the upcoming academic year.”
