Regent College is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Dr. Jerry Hwang as Academic Dean and Professor of Old Testament, effective October 23, 2025.
Prior to joining Regent’s faculty, Dr. Hwang served as Associate Professor of Theology at Trinity Christian College in the Chicago area. From 2010 to 2023, he served as a missionary with OMF International seconded to Singapore Bible College, where he served first as a faculty member and later as Academic Dean. Before beginning his academic career, Dr. Hwang worked as an IT professional and as a pastor in both Chinese and multicultural churches.
Regent President Dr. Paul Spilsbury is “delighted to welcome Dr. Hwang to Regent College. Jerry is an accomplished scholar with a strong record of academic leadership. I am looking forward to working with him and am confident that he will be a blessing to our entire community.”
Dr. Hwang has a deep sense of God’s vocational call on him as a Christian educator. “I’m thrilled and humbled at this opportunity to serve alongside the Regent faculty in the role of Academic Dean,” he said. “There is such a rich attentiveness here to God’s presence, spiritual formation, and cultural intelligence that I’m privileged to contribute to further!”
Dr. Hwang has published widely in Old Testament and theological studies, with an emphasis on the Pentateuch and prophetic literature, mission studies, and the contextualization of biblical theology in Asian contexts. He is the co-editor of Exploring the Old Testament in Asia: Evangelical Perspectives and the author of Contextualization and the Old Testament: Between Asian and Western Perspectives (both published in 2022 by Asia Theological Association/Langham Literature). He has written commentaries on Hosea and Jeremiah and is currently working on a commentary on Job. He serves as Executive Editor of the Evangelical Review of Theology (a journal published by the World Evangelical Alliance) and is a member of the New Living Translation Bible Translation Committee.
Jerry Hwang is married to missiologist Jackie J. Hwang, a PhD candidate in World Christianity at the University of Edinburgh. Her research is focused on the intersection of Chinese Christianity, diaspora missiology, and ecclesiology. Jerry and Jackie have three children.
