Director of Finance

Reporting to the College President, the Director of Finance is responsible to direct, maintain and manage the finances and financial systems of the College. The Director of Finance must be able to routinely communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders and is a member of the Senior Administrative Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for financial oversight of four legal entities: Regent College (primary), two foundations and a charitable trust
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information for internal and external audiences
  • Prepare the annual College and Foundation budgets and operational forecasts
  • Assist in designing, preparing and executing on the strategic planning process, including financial forecasts and models
  • Supervise, mentor, and train a staff of three: Accountant, Payroll Administrator, and Receptionist/Accounting Clerk
  • Coordinate and manage the annual audit for all four entities
  • Liaise with the College Treasurer and Foundation Board Chair to ensure consistent meetings of the Finance Committee and Foundation Boards, record minutes at meetings, provide reports to committee members and ensure that all motions and approvals required are obtained
  • Prepare reports for submission to the Board of Governors, attend board meetings and give financial updates and presentations at meetings
  • Provide accurate maintenance of all accounting systems and processes to ensure adequate internal controls
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies to ensure both compliance and reporting requirements are met
  • Manage College funds, bank accounts, loans and investments
  • Oversee College insurance policy
  • Liaise with Financial Aid Officer to ensure compliance with US Department of Education for US student loans is adhered to
  • Liaise with the Advancement Office to ensure gifts are recorded in correct funds including compliance of fund stipulations for donor restricted funds
  • Assist in preparation of legal contracts with various service providers
  • Oversee document retention and disposal of all financial documents
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in not-for-profit accounting for the charitable sector.
Qualifications:
  • Understands the mission and vision of Regent College and must be able to subscribe to Regent College’s Theological Position (which includes a Doctrinal Statement and a Moral Vision Statement). (http://www.regent-college.edu/about-us/theological-position)
  • A Canadian CPA designation is required
  • 7-10 years Canadian accounting experience and a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience are required
  • Superior leadership, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision and managing senior level relationships
  • Results-focused and the demonstrated ability to think strategically
  • Intrinsically motivated with the proven ability to support new initiatives
  • Experience with Canadian charities and in a post-secondary setting would be considered an asset
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically Excel); Google Suite; Microsoft Dynamics GP; and SIS systems would be considered an asset.
