Legacy Giving

FAQ

Do you have questions about the details of including Regent in your estate plans?

We have answers to common inquiries below, and we encourage you to contact an accountant or financial planner about any of the giving options that interest you.

How do I include Regent in my will?

You can download the instructions on Completing Bequest or Estate Gifts , or contact Richard Thompson at [email protected].

Can I change my mind after putting Regent in my will?

Yes. For bequests and many other planned giving options, you can change your mind at any time because you are not making a gift until after your lifetime.

Can I make an endowed gift or a gift for a specific purpose that I determine?

Yes. Please contact the Donor Relations Office so that we can help ensure your gift is in alignment with institutional priorities and can be effectively administered by staff, while at the same time honouring your intent. Please note that unrestricted gifts are extremely helpful because the College can use them to flexibly meet its future needs.

Does this mean less wealth to pass on to my kids?

No, not necessarily. Options such as a charitable lead trust can provide annual donations to Regent and then after your passing, transfer the principal back to your heirs and leave a legacy at Regent College.

Can I keep my assets now to ensure that I have enough for the rest of my life?

Yes. Bequests, insurance, and charitable gift annuities are all options that either keep your assets in your control or provide fixed income for you during your lifetime.

Do I need a lawyer?

Not necessarily. While your lawyer or notary can often update your will for little – or even no – charge, you can also simply add Regent College as a beneficiary to an insurance or pension policy by speaking to the policy administrator.

Is there a minimum donation required?

A gift of any size enables you to leave a lasting legacy with Regent. However, some endowed or restricted gifts may have a minimum contribution due to the administrative requirements to ensure the gifts are carried out according to your wishes.

Do I need to inform you about my estate plans?

You need not share specific details of your estate plans, and we (as well as your lawyer) will respect any wish you may have for confidentiality and anonymity. But letting us know about your legacy plans would allow us to show our appreciation, keep you informed about Regent’s worldwide impact, and plan more effectively for our financial future.
