Anglican Life: Polity and Liturgy

This course is designed to introduce students to the nature and practice of worship, liturgy, sacramental theology, and spiritual formation in the Anglican tradition. Students will explore the history and theology of the practice of baptism, the eucharist, other services commonly used in Anglican parishes, and the place of preaching, particularly in light of the Book of Common Prayer tradition. Along the way, attention will be given to proximate pastoral issues. This course will also introduce students to Anglican polity at the parish, diocesan, provincial, and international level.

Winter 2025
Class time for this course will be divided between asynchronous pre-recorded lectures and Live Zoom tutorials every week. Prior to the first tutorial, students should view recorded lectures for the week (available on Moodle) and complete the assigned readings.

Tutorials will take place on Mondays at 1pm Pacific Time. Students who cannot participate due to their time zone will have access to recordings of the tutorials for one week. Please notify the instructor at the beginning of the course if you are unable to participate in these. Though the class starts on Monday, January 13, the live Zoom tutorial for the first week will be on Monday, January 20.
