Introductory Old Testament Hebrew I
Welcome to Biblical Hebrew! You are about to embark on an exciting journey, so חֲג֗ר מָתְנֶיךָ “gird up your loins” (roughly equivalent to “get ready to roll”). Few academic endeavors will do more to enhance your grasp of the heart of biblical texts than the learning of the languages in which they were originally written. As the grandson of the ancient sage Jesus ben Sira wrote more than 2,100 years ago in the preface to his Greek translation of his grandfather’s Hebrew work known as The Wisdom of Jesus Son of Sirach (or Ecclesiasticus),
It is impossible for a translator to find precise equivalents for the original Hebrew in another language. …it makes no small difference to read them in the original.
There are no prerequisites for this course.
