Bonhoeffer's Christian Humanism

This course is also offered as THEO 518

In this course, we will examine Bonhoeffer’s theology through the lens of Christian humanism. Christian humanism focusses on the incarnation (God’s becoming human, death, and resurrection for the redemption of humanity and creation) to interpret salvation as our transformation into the complete humanity inaugurated by Christ. The course readings and lectures are designed to give students a holistic sense of Bonhoeffer’s theology and its “incarnational” intent of finding a theological language that emphasises God’s love for the world without minimizing the church’s role as a distinct community.
