Our mandate is to educate the whole people of God—and that includes the Christian community of Vancouver and beyond. We offer free public lectures by our own world-class faculty, and by visiting scholars, teachers, and authors from around the world.

We host two regular lecture series—Summer Lectures and the Laing Lectures—as well as special events throughout the year.

Most of our lectures are recorded and available as audio downloads through RegentAudio.com

Summer Lectures

In the Spring and Summer Sessions, we host lectures every week to highlight the research of our regular faculty and our visiting summer lecturers.

Book Launch | When Courage Calls: Josephine Butler and the Radical Pursuit of Justice for Women

Sarah_williams

With Sarah C. Williams

Join us to learn about the subject of Research Professor Sarah C. Williams's most recent book, When Courage Calls: Josephine Butler and the Radical Pursuit of Justice for Women.

About the Lecture

This lecture tells the story of feminist philosopher and social activist, Josephine Butler (1828–1906). From 1869 to 1885, Butler worked tirelessly to bring to the attention of Victorian society the plight of destitute women and children caught in the sex trade. She challenged contemporary attitudes, campaigned for the legal protection of women and children against sexual violence, and renegotiated the place of women in the public sphere. But what lay behind Butler’s bold critique of Victorian culture? This lecture will explore the intimate relationship between Butler’s spiritual practices and her perception of justice, offering a set of reflections on the vital importance of prayer for cultural transformation as relevant today as it has ever been.
