Come hear the Mark Glanville Jazz Trio perform for a musical book launch in the Regent Atrium. Join us from 7:30 to 9 pm on Friday, April 5, for music, refreshments, and a celebration of Mark's new book, Improvising Church: Scripture as the Source of Harmony, Rhythm, and Soul (IVP Academic).

About the Book

The post-Christian cultural turn is creating the conditions for a crisis of confidence in the church and in pastoral ministry. While such changes can be disruptive and disconcerting, our new cultural reality makes the present moment a uniquely exciting time to reimagine churches that bear witness to Christ. How do we move beyond cookie-cutter approaches (which may have worked in the past) to building the creative, compassionate, and incarnational churches we long for?

Biblical scholar and accomplished jazz pianist Mark Glanville plays with a metaphor of improvisation to chart twelve themes as the key "notes" on which Christian communities play as they bear witness to God in the world today. Building on these two dynamic traditions—jazz music and Christian community—Improvising Church unfolds a biblical, practical, and inventive vision for churches seeking to receive and extend the healing of Christ. (More from the Publisher.)

About the Author

Mark Glanville joined Regent's faculty as Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology after 14 years as a bi-vocational pastor and biblical scholar. His experience of scholarship, teaching, and pastoring gives him the ability to write and teach for the church with clarity and creativity, training pastors with both theological depth and practical wisdom.

Mark’s life goal is to research, teach, and write in ways that nourish Christian leaders to creatively reimagine what the church can be and do in post-Christian societies. Through a variety of lenses, Mark shows how the Bible is forming churches that extend the tenderness of Jesus in their particular neighbourhoods.
