Opening Prayer for Epiphany

God our Maker, Saviour, and King,
We gather to confess your lordship
and to seek your face.
Lord, in your mercy, come light our hearts.

Father in heaven,
you led Israel through the wilderness
by the light of a fiery pillar.
You led the Gentiles to your Son
by the light of a star in the sky.
Lord, in your mercy, lead us with your light.

Lord Jesus Christ,
the heavens opened over you at your baptism.
The Holy Spirit descended upon you like a dove
as the Father’s words revealed your identity to us.
You are the beloved Son of God!
With you the Father is well pleased.

At the wedding in Cana
You held the command of matter itself.
Transforming shame into lavish blessing,
you made water into wine.
The earth is yours.
You are the King of Creation.

It was in the presence of your disciples
that divine radiance shone out from you on the mountain.
With them, may we hear the Father’s words and heed them well.
You are the chosen Son of God!
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, help us listen to you.
Lord, in your mercy, come light our hearts. Amen.

Come Light Our Hearts

For you, O Lord, our souls in stillness wait
For you, O Lord, our souls in stillness wait
Truly our hope is in you, truly our hope is in you

O Lord of life, our only hope
Your radiance shines on all who look
to you in the dark, Emmanuel come, come light our hearts

Oh joy above, all other loves
In you we find, more than enough
We come as we are, oh heal and restore, come light our hearts

In Christ Alone

Keith Getty & Stuart Townend | ©2001 Thankyou Music

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all –
here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on him was laid –
here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground his body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave he rose again
And as he stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am his and he is mine –
bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from his hand
Till he returns or calls me home –
here in the power of Christ I'll stand

Prayer for a New Year

Guide me o thou great redeemer

Lyrics: William Williams | Tune (“Cwm Rhondda”): John Hughes | Trans: Peter Williams

Guide me O thou great Redeemer, pilgrim through this barren land
I am weak but thou art mighty, hold me with thy pow'rful hand
Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven, feed me now and ever more
Feed me now and ever more

Open thou the crystal fountain whence the healing stream doth flow
Let the fiery cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through
Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield
Be thou still my strength and shield

When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside
Death of death and hell's destruction, land me safe on Canaan's side
Songs and praises, songs and praises, I will ever give to thee
I will ever give to thee

Scripture | 1 Peter 1:3-9 (NRSV)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith—being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
