Introduction to the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

Homily | Let Your Light Shine Forth As The Sun

Rev. Jodi Spargur

Shine Forth As The Sun

© Words and Music by Cheryl Bear

Welcome a stranger
Give an orphan hope.
Visit a prisoner
Help a widow cope
Then your light will shine forth like the sun
Then your light will shine on everyone

Give away your money
Heal the broken hearts
Feed the hungry belly
Forgive the one who hurts
Then your light will shine forth like the sun
Then your light will shine on everyone

Speak out for the speechless
Love the one who’s weak
Give shelter to the homeless
Serve the one who’s least
Then your light will shine forth like the sun
Then your light will shine on everyone

Throw away vain arguments
The falsehood and deceit
Pound the drums for righteousness
Let injustice cease
Then your light will shine forth like the sun
Then your light will shine on everyone
Then your light will shine forth like the sun (like the Son of God)
Then your light will shine on everyone

God I Look To You

© 2010 Words and Music by Ian McIntosh and Jenn Johnson Lyrics pluralized

God we look to you
We won't be overwhelmed
Give us vision to see things like you do
God we look to you
You're where our help comes from
Give us wisdom you know just what to do

We will love you Lord our strength
We will love you Lord our shield
We will love you Lord our rock
Forever all our days we will love you God

Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Forever all our days hallelujah

Prayer of Response:

Anglican Healing Fund

Merciful God, you call us to loving relationship with one another.
Be with us now, reveal old wounds that need healing, restore joy where there has been hurt.
Replace our hearts of stone with hearts of flesh.
Give us the gifts of honesty and openness, and fill us with your healing power and grace.
We ask this in Jesus’s name.
Amen.

Scripture | John 14:5-6 (First Nations Version: An Indigenous Translation of the New Testament)

Looks Like His Brother (Thomas) interrupted and said, “Wisdomkeeper, if we do not know where you are going,
how can we know the path?” “I am the Great Spirit’s pathway, the truth about who he really is,
and the life of beauty and harmony he offers to all. There is no other guide who can take you to the Father.
To know me is to know my Father, so from now on you know him and have seen him.

Without the truth we cannot know
Without the life, we cannot live
