The Legacy of Ancient Christianity for China
The growth of Protestantism in China has largely developed without the benefits of the Patristic anchor in the faith. It often comes as a surprise to most Chinese Protestants that the deep roots of the Reformation are found in early Christianity.
In this course, through online lectures and discussions conducted in Mandarin with Chinese/English lecture notes. we will find how the ancient faith gave Christianity its first expressions in the forming of baptismal confessions, the language of worship, hymns, theological articulation, in catechetical instruction and critical statements of faith known as creeds. Together we will see how the early church came to function as the doctrinal, spiritual, and exegetical standard out of which all subsequent Christian theology and biblical interpretation have developed across the ages—in both the east and the west. especially as critical heritage for the Chinese church
