New Testament Book Study: Revelation

(A) (Pre-recorded Distance Education Option Available)

For many readers of the book of Revelation, the puzzling imagery and structure generates one of two contrasting responses: It generates either a certain kind of obsession or fascination with the book, or else (sometimes as an overreaction to the first response) it is avoided and ignored altogether. Both responses are regrettable. This course will seek to recover the book of Revelation as God’s word to us by considering its unique structure, symbolism, and rhetoric in light of biblical and apocryphal literature and in the historical and social context of the early Church. Along the way, we will wrestle with some of the hermeneutical issues raised by the book, and potential implications for Christians and the world today.
