OT Book Study: Wisdom Literature

“Character is dead.  Attempts to revive it yield little.  Its time has passed.”  So begins J. D. Hunter in his book on The Death of Character.  He continues, “Character is formed in relation to convictions and is manifested in the capacity to abide by those convictions even in, especially in, the face of temptation.” If there are any books in the Bible designed to build godly character, they are the wisdom books of the Old Testament.  Often perplexing, always intriguing, the books of Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes address us right where we are in the midst of life’s challenges and rewards, its struggles and its joys, its mysteries and its suffering.  The aim of this course is to explore these Wisdom books in the expectation that God will meet us and will not leave us unchanged.
