The History of Heresy

This course covers the history of heresy with a particular focus on the emergence of orthodoxy and heresy in the early church. The primary contents of the course include the origins of heresy and orthodoxy in Judaism and the Greco-Roman world, Paul and his opponents, unity and diversity in the early church, the emergence of second-century heretical groups, Christian responses to heresy, the Arian controversy, and contemporary heresies today.

This course is available onsite and online. Students must register for the online section to gain Zoom access to the course.

Course lectures will be recorded, and students may be captured in course recordings. Access to lecture recordings is normally only given to online students who cannot reasonably be expected to attend the course live due to time zone differences. These students should contact the course instructor for permission to access recordings.
