Learning in the Downtown Eastside
Course Description
Engage in an immersive week of learning in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Discover this community’s resilience, creativity, and sense of belonging while gaining an understanding of the challenges it faces. As you engage with local residents, leaders, practitioners, churches, and other organizations, you will apply a process of assessment and reflection to come away with insights for a ministry of presence and solidarity. Registration opens on February 11, 2026. All students will be waitlisted until shortly after March 16, 2026, upon which admission into the course is decided. There are a limited number of tuition scholarships specific to this course. These are available for students in the MDiv program or pursuing the Applied Theology concentration in the MATS program. Students must apply for a scholarship upon registration using the form provided in REGIS. Students who receive a scholarship will be notified alongside their admission into the course after March 16. These scholarships are only for tuition towards this course. Dropping the course will result in forfeiting the scholarship. If there are remaining spots in the course after March 16, students will be admitted on a first come, first served basis. Because this course has tuition funding available and requires work in advance, it has special registration deadlines.Important Registration Notes
