Letter from the President: Regent College Begins Presidential Transition

February 27, 2024

Dear Regent College community,

Today, after our weekly chapel service, I shared with our gathered community the news that I will conclude my tenure as Regent’s fifth president when my second term in office finishes on June 30, 2025.

It has been an enormous honour to serve Regent in this capacity, especially as the first graduate of the College to hold this role. As a student here in the 1980s, I served as Teaching Assistant to the Principal at that time, Dr. Carl Armerding. In those years Carl involved me in many behind-the-scenes dimensions of the life of the school. I was intrigued, and gradually came to know that I was called into administrative leadership in theological education. But I never dreamed I would one day return to Regent in any capacity, let alone as President.

This is my tenth year in this role. I love this job with its many challenges and many opportunities. I love Regent’s mission, vision, and people. When I accepted this position in 2015, my intention was to serve for ten years, God being my helper. After an unhurried period of reflection, consultation, and prayer, my wife Janet and I discerned in June 2023 that God was leading us to uphold that initial plan and then (after a sabbatical) move into a different phase of my ministry at Regent. I began working with the Board leadership on plans for the transition. I look forward to being able to focus more on teaching, writing, and editing in the years ahead.

When the Board of Governors offered me the position, I told them that my goal as President was to finish well, no matter how many years I served in the role. That continues to be my goal. There is a great deal of good and important work to be done in the next 15 months. I will give my full energy to seeing the College move ahead with our strategic priorities. I am totally committed to supporting an effective transition for my successor, whomever God calls to this office.

I am grateful for the Board’s initiative in setting in place the preliminary steps for the search process. Please join me in praying for the Lord to continue to guide Regent, provide for all our needs, and raise up the right person to serve as Regent’s sixth president.

Sincerely,

Jeff Greenman
President
Regent College
