Please join us on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 12 to 1 pm in Room 100 to hear Parker Arnold, 2023 Conway Holy Land Travel Bursary recipient, present "The Rise of Radicalism and Repression of Rights in the Holy Land," a reflection on his experience in Israel-Palestine.

Each year, one Regent student travels to the Holy Land courtesy of the Conway Holy Land Travel Bursary. This bursary—generously endowed by historian and long-time friend of Regent, the late Dr. John Conway—enables a student to engage in inter-religious dialogue and explore issues of peace and justice.

“The Rise of Radicalism and Repression of Rights in the Holy Land” by Parker Arnold

This year's bursary recipient is Parker Arnold. Parker moved to Vancouver in the fall of 2021 to complete his Master of Theology (ThM) degree at Regent with a focus on the Old Testament. His interest in the Hebrew Scriptures slowly grew into a curiosity about contemporary Judaism, which led him to take an interest in the Conway Holy Land Travel Bursary.

On November 15, Parker will reflect on his experience travelling to Israel-Palestine in his presentation, “The Rise of Radicalism and Repression of Rights in the Holy Land.”

What do recent mass protests in Israel have to do with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict? What role does religion play in this? By telling the stories of a Palestinian farmer, an Israeli settler, a Holocaust survivor, and a faithful Muslim, Parker will paint a multifaceted picture of life in the Holy Land based on his firsthand experience with these individuals prior to the outbreak of war. He will do this with an eye towards understanding the concerning rise of religious radicalism within Israel and what this might mean for the whole region.
