Roundtable: Reading While Black; Reading While White
Join us on Wednesdays during this year’s Summer Programs to enjoy conversations with members of our summer faculty. The professors and topics are different each week, so there’s always something new to explore.
Topic
Biblical scholars Rev. Dr. Dennis R. Edwards and Dr. Michael J. Gorman are two of the contributors to the recent book, The New Testament in Color: A Multiethnic Bible Commentary (edited by Esau McCaulley, Janette H. Ok, Osvaldo Padilla, and Amy Peeler; IVP, 2024). Rev. Dr. Edwards wrote the chapters on Colossians and Philemon, while Dr. Gorman wrote a chapter titled "Majority-Culture Biblical Interpretation: Reading While White."
This week, these two distinguished scholars will join us for a conversation about how identity, culture, and context shape how all of us read the Bible. Join us at noon in Room 100, and feel free to bring your lunch.
Format
Wednesday Lunchtime Conversations are offered onsite at Regent College. These events are open to the public, and no registration is required.
