About the Lecture
The Old Testament has often been weaponized in the Middle East, leading many to ask: why should Christians still preach from it? Isn't the New Testament enough? Based on his recent book, Unlocking the Old Testament: Christ Is the Culmination of the Law, Yohanna Katanacho explores this vital question from a Palestinian Christian perspective. This lecture will examine the "pitfalls" that hinder engagement with the first covenant—from its exploitation for political narratives to cultural and scholarly challenges—while highlighting the unique "promises" and continuity Middle Eastern believers share with these ancient texts. Finally, the session will present a christological roadmap for interpreting and obeying the Old Testament today. Attendees will discover how to move beyond rigid literalism toward a deeper, more accurate understanding of the word as the inspired “book of Christ and the church.”
