Epl-2019-480

Many people talk about poetry as something that merely rhymes or confounds students, but what if poetry became something that we longed for and needed in our lives, particularly as Christians? Poetry, perhaps more than any other artistic form, can hold complex human experiences together in ways that might transform how we experience the reality of God. See, hear, and feel how this happens in poems by Jane Kenyon, Christian Wiman, and Robert Hass, three contemporary writers who are part of an unfolding conversation about the mystery and sense of moreness that exists in the ordinary world we inhabit.

Chad Wriglesworth is Associate Professor of English at St. Jerome's University in the University of Waterloo. He writes and teaches about the interplay between contemporary American literature, theology, and ecology through writers such as Marilynne Robinson, Jane Kenyon and Christian Wiman. He is editor of Distant Neighbors: The Selected Letters of Wendell Berry and Gary Snyder

This lecture is part of our 2019 Summer Evening Public Lecture Series.
