Eugene and Jan Peterson Chair in Theology and the Arts

Regent College, an international graduate school of Christian studies located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, seeks applicants and nominations to fill the Eugene and Jan Peterson Chair in Theology and the Arts. The Chair was established in 2011 to foster the integration of the arts broadly conceived (including literature and the visual, graphic, and plastic arts) with our theological and biblical understanding of Christian discipleship.

The ideal candidate will be a person with broad interdisciplinarity in theology and the humanities with a focus on the arts, preferably demonstrated through training and/or experience in one of the fine arts.

This position will ideally be filled by a person who can give both academic and artistic leadership to the Christianity and the Arts Concentration in a unique theological setting where the integration of the fine arts with theological and biblical studies and personal spiritual formation is a primary shared value.

The person who fills this position will:

  • have a completed terminal degree with demonstrated interdisciplinarity (PhD in theology preferred);
  • bring a record of academic publication and/or artistic performance, production, or arts administration experience;
  • be able to (a) teach the integration of the arts with theology at a graduate level; (b) provide leadership to the Christianity and the Arts Concentration at Regent College; (c) supervise academic or artistic theses at the master’s level; and
  • be willing to subscribe without reservation to the Regent College Theological Position, which includes a Doctrinal Statement and a Moral Vision. (

  • a comprehensive curriculum vitae including education, employment history, teaching experience, and evidence of scholarship, publication, and engagement with the arts
  • the names and contact information for three references willing to support your application
  • a recent sample of your writing such as a published article or book chapter
  • a statement of your teaching philosophy
