Lunchtime Lecture with Melody Bellefeuille-Frost
Join us on Wednesday, November 4, for a lunchtime lecture with Melody Bellefeuille-Frost titled “Portable Altarpieces: A Case Study of Visual Missiology in Japan.” Bring your lunch and meet us in Room 100 at 12 pm.
About the Lecture
Images of Christ played an essential role in the lives of European Catholic missionaries and Japanese Christian converts in the 16th and 17th centuries. This lecture will explore the relationships between theology, visual art, and intercultural ministry through a case study of portable altarpieces. What do European and Japanese images of Christ suggest, depict, and embody? How might they contribute to our understanding of visual theology? Melody presents visual missiology, the study of God’s mission through visual and material forms, as a branch of theology and the arts that opens new ways of seeing.
Location: Regent College Room 100
Parking: Regent College does not have its own parking lot. Paid parking options are available nearby with metered parking on Western Parkway, among other locations, and covered pay parking at the Thunderbird Parkade. See parking.ubc.ca for more info.
