Cosmology and Misanthropology | A Public Lecture with Dr. Dennis Danielson
The Houston Centre invites you to a public lecture, “Cosmology and Misanthropology: The Unscientific Denigration of Humanity in the Name of Science.” Join us on Thursday, October 8, to hear from Dr. Dennis Danielson.
About the Event
In this lecture, Dr. Dennis Danielson asks the question: What does our planet’s smallness imply for our and Earth’s “place” and meaning within the cosmic scheme? Dennis argues that for centuries, there has been a tendency among scientists to read earthly smallness as entailing triviality or insignificance. The lecture will illustrate the persistence of this glib tendency and offer tools for reimagining Earth’s and humankind’s significance despite their cosmic smallness.
