In this episode, Matthew Lynch, Regent College’s Bruce K. Waltke Associate Professor of Old Testament, joins Zac Sechler on the Adherent Apologetics podcast to share insight into a project he’s been developing, one that may become a book. Together, they explore the many dilemmas found in Scripture and ask whether these tensions are intentional.
Rather than offering neat conclusions, the Bible often invites us to sit with ambiguity. Scripture requires patience, and not every story resolves into a clear takeaway. Instead, these perplexities may serve a deeper purpose, unsettling us in ways that create space for growth and transformation.
The conversation also reflects on humility in the face of mystery. God’s ways are higher than our own, and while God is not unknowable, there remains an “otherness” that we cannot fully grasp. Throughout Scripture, especially in the Old Testament, God is both revealed and still mysterious.
This episode invites us to embrace tension, grow comfortable with not having all the answers, and develop a deeper capacity to hold mystery.
