Elizabeth E. Shively
About
Elizabeth E. Shively is Professor of Christian Scriptures at Baylor University's Truett Seminary, where she teaches New Testament with a particular focus on the Gospels. She previously taught at the University of St Andrews (Scotland) for over a decade. Before her academic career, she served on the pastoral staff of Park Street Church in Boston, Massachusetts, an experience that continues to shape her conviction that biblical scholarship should serve the life and ministry of the church.
Elizabeth is a leading voice in Markan studies, co-chairing the Gospel of Mark steering committee of the Society of Biblical Literature, and is co-creator of the Diegesis in Mind research initiative on cognitive approaches to ancient narrative. She is also part of the preaching team at her local church, where she puts her scholarship into practice. As a teacher, she combines rigorous research with a pastoral heart for helping the biblical text come alive in ministry and daily life.
