Dr. Roshan Allpress has served as National Principal of Laidlaw College in Aotearoa New Zealand since 2017.

He holds degrees in History from Canterbury and Oxford, and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He has research interests in the history of social and cultural reform, evangelicalism and religious reform, the origins of philanthropy and humanitarianism, and intersections of theology and political economic thought.

Roshan has a background in non-profit leadership and public policy, having worked for Maxim Institute and founded and led the Compass Foundation (now Venn Foundation). He serves on a number of boards, and speaks regularly in academic, church, and public settings in New Zealand and internationally. 

Roshan’s teaching, writing, and leadership are animated by a concern for Christian formation, institutional and societal renewal, public theology, and the long work of equipping leaders and communities to participate wisely and courageously in God’s renewing work in the world.

His latest book, British Philanthropy in the Globalizing World: Entrepreneurs and Evangelicals, 1756–1840, is available through Oxford University Press.
