Call to Worship

By David Adam

A voice cries:
“In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”

Come Lord Jesus,
Come as King
Rule in our hearts,
Come as love.
Rule in our minds,
Come as peace.
Rule in our actions,
Come as power.
Rule in our days,
Come as joy.
Rule in our darkness,
Come as light.
Rule in our bodies,
Come as health.
Rule in our labours,
Come as hope.
Thy Kingdom come among us,
Amen.

Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

Charlese Wesley and Vicky Hancock Wright | Red Mountain Music Version

Come Thou long-expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free
From our fears and sins release us
Let us find our rest in Thee
Israel’s strength and consolation
Hope of all the earth Thou art
Dear desire of ev’ry nation
Joy of every longing heart

Joy to those who long to see Thee
Dayspring from on high appear
Come Thou promised Rod of Jesse
Of Thy birth we long to hear!
O’er the hills the angels singing
News, glad tidings of a birth
“Go to Him, your praises bringing
Christ the Lord has come to earth”

Come to earth to taste our sadness
He whose glories knew no end
by His life He brings us gladness
Our Redeemer, Shepherd, Friend
Leaving riches without number
Born within a cattle stall
This the everlasting wonder
Christ was born the Lord of all!

Born Thy people to deliver
Born a child and yet a king
Born to reign in us forever
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring
By Thine own eternal spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone
By Thine all sufficient merit
Raise us to Thy glorious throne

O come all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye O come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of angels

O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
    Christ the Lord

God of God
Light of light
Lo He abhors not the virgin's womb
Very God
Begotten not created

Sing choirs of angels
Sing in exultation
Sing all ye citizens of heaven above
Glory to God
Glory in the highest

Yea Lord we greet Thee
Born this happy morning
Jesus to Thee be glory given
Word of the Father
Now in flesh appearing

Prayers of the People

Testimony

The Lord bless you and keep you
The Lord make his face shine upon you
The Lord turn towards to you and give you peace

Scripture | John 14 and Ephesians 2 (NIV)

John 14: 1-10a
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?

Ephesians 2:14-16
For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.

Homily | The One Who Comes

Come My Way My Truth My Life

George Herbert and Ralph Vaughan Williams © Public Domain

Come my Way my Truth my Life
Such a way as gives us breath
Such a truth as ends all strife
Such a life as killeth death

Come my Light my Feast my Strength
Such a light as shows a feast
Such a feast as mends in length
Such a strength as makes his guest

Come my Joy my Love my Heart
Such a joy as none can move
Such a love as none can part
Such a heart as joys in love

What Child Is This?

William Chatterton Dix © Public Domain

What Child is this who laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet
While shepherds watch are keeping

This, this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing
Haste, haste to bring him laud
The Babe, the Son of Mary

Why lies he in such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding
Good Christian fear for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading

Nails, spear shall pierce him through
The cross be borne for me, for you
Hail, hail the Word made flesh
The Babe, the Son of Mary

So bring him incense, gold and myrrh
Come peasant king to own him
The King of Kings salvation brings
Let loving hearts enthrone him

Raise, raise the song on high
   The virgin sings her lullaby
Joy, joy for Christ is born
The Babe the Son of Mary

This, this is Christ the King
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing
Haste, haste to bring him laud
The Babe the Son of Mary

Benediction
