Introduction

Opening Prayer

Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known
and from whom no secrets are hid:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy
Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your
holy name: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 51

1 Have mercy upon me, O God, in your great | goodness; *
according to the multitude of your mercies wipe away
my of | fences.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my | wickedness *
and cleanse me from my | sin.
3 For I acknowledge my | faults, *
and my sin is ever before | me.
4 Against you only have I sinned, and done this evil in your | sight, *
so that you are justified in your sentence, ’
and blameless in your | judgment.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in | wickedness, *
and in sin my mother con | ceived me.
6 But behold, you desire truth in the inward | parts *
and shall make me understand wisdom | secretly.
7 You shall purge me with hyssop, and I shall be | clean; *
you shall wash me, and I shall be whiter than | snow.
8 You shall make me hear of joy and | gladness, *
that the bones which you have broken may re | joice.
9 Turn your face from my | sins, *
and blot out all my mis | deeds.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O | God, *
and renew a right spirit within | me.
11 Cast me not away from your | presence, *
and take not your holy Spirit | from me.
12 O give me the comfort of your help a | gain, *
and sustain me with your willing | Spirit.
13 Then shall I teach your ways unto the | wicked, *
and sinners shall return unto | you.
14 Deliver me from blood-guilt, O God, the God of my sal | vation,*
and my tongue shall sing of your righteous | ness.
15 O Lord, open my | lips, *
and my mouth shall show forth your | praise.
16 For you desire no sacrifice, or else I would give it | to you; *
but you delight not in burnt-| offerings.
17 The sacrifice of God is a troubled | spirit; *
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you shall not des | pise.
18 O be favourable and gracious unto | Zion; *
may you build up the walls of Jer | usalem.
(Repeat second half of chant)
19 Then you shall be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, ’
with the burnt-offerings and ob | lations; *
then shall they offer young bullocks upon your | altar.
Glory be to the | Father,*
and to the Son, and to the Holy | Spirit;
As it was in the be | ginning,
is now, and ever shall be, ’ world without end. A | men.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

© Public Domain | Helen Howarth Lemmel Lyrical edits and additions (verse 3) by Daniel Melvill Jones

O soul are you weary and troubled
No light in the darkness you see
There's light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free

   Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
The allure of sin will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace

Through death into life everlasting,
He passed, and we follow Him there;
O’er us sin has no more dominion
For more than conqu’rors we are.

For ev’ry look upon yourself,
Take ten looks to Christ who’s above.
So that all your shame, fears, and failures
Will pale when compared to his love.

His word shall not fail you he promised
Believe him and all will be well
Then go to a world that is troubled
His perfect salvation to tell

Prayers of the People

Scripture | 1 Samuel 25:32-35 (NRSVCE)

32 David said to Abigail, “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who
sent you to meet me today!
33 Blessed be your good sense, and blessed be you, who have kept
me today from bloodguilt and from avenging myself by my own
hand!
34 For as surely as the Lord the God of Israel lives, who has
restrained me from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to
meet me, truly by morning there would not have been left to Nabal
so much as one male.”
35 Then David received from her hand what she had brought him; he
said to her, “Go up to your house in peace; see, I have heeded your
voice, and I have granted your petition.”

God I Look To You

© 2010 Jenn Johnson

God, I look to you, I won't be overwhelmed
Give me vision to see things like you do
God, I look to you, you're where my help comes from
Give me wisdom, you know just what to do

God, I look to you, and I won't be overwhelmed
Give me vision to see things like you do
God, I look to you, and you're where my help comes from
Give me wisdom, you know just what to do

And I will love you, Lord my strength
And I will love you, Lord my shield
And I will love you, Lord, my rock
Forever all my days, I will love you, God

God, we look to you, we won't be overwhelmed
Give us vision to see things like you do
God, we look to you, you're where our help comes from
Give us wisdom, you know just what to do

And we will love you, Lord our strength
And we will love you, Lord our shield
And we will love you, Lord, our rock
Forever all our days, we will love you, God

And we will love you, Lord our strength
And we will love you, Lord our shield
And we will love you, Lord, our rock
Forever all our days, we will love you, God

Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Oh, hallelujah our God reigns
Forever all our days, hallelujah

Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Oh, hallelujah our God reigns
Forever all our days, hallelujah
