One of the highlights of Regent Summer Programs is our free Evening Public Lectures. This series always features a wide range of professors and topics, and this year is no exception. All lectures will be streamed online, so invite a friend and join us!

Churches don't usually start at Sinai when formulating their mission, but that's exactly where they should go. This lecture will take a close look at the command not to bear God's name in vain (Exodus 20:7) in light of its literary, historical, and theological contexts. Together we'll re-envision the vocation of God's people to represent him among the nations and consider what that might look like today.

Dr. Carmen Imes is professor of Old Testament at Prairie College in Three Hills, Alberta. Her books include Bearing YHWH's Name at Sinai: A Reexamination of the Name Command of the DecalogueBearing God's Name: Why Sinai Still Matters, and Reading the Psalms with Augustine and Friends. She is currently working on a commentary on Exodus for Baker Academic and a book on what it means to be the image of God for IVP.  Carmen is an active member of the Canadian Society of Biblical Studies, the Institute for Biblical Research, the Society of Biblical Literature, and the Evangelical Theological Society. She blogs at carmenjoyimes.blogspot.com, Christianity Today, and The Well, and releases weekly Torah Tuesday videos on her YouTube channel.

Dr. Imes will be teaching the course The Book of Exodus from July 26-30 as part of Regent's 2021 Summer Programs.
