About the Lecture
In a world defined by both scientific discovery and spiritual uncertainty, 17th-century Christians grappled with challenges, doubts, and vanities that we still face today. Drawing on the works of John Donne and George Herbert, this lecture explores the complicated relationship between scientific inquiry, cosmology, and devotion to God. It suggests that both poets provide us with guidance for how to look beyond the stars and towards the supernatural light of faith and grace.
