Course Description

This course, in conjunction with LANG 551, introduces the student to the Greek of the New Testament and provides an opportunity to master its essential grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. The purpose of this introduction is to provide a foundation for a lifetime of reading the original language text of the New Testament. Upon completion of LANG 551, the student can expect to understand enough Greek to read and analyze significant portions of the New Testament (with help for vocabulary), but the emphasis is on the essential building blocks needed to lay a foundation for further study. 

The core assumption of this course is that knowledge of the original languages is essential for faithful interpretation of the biblical text. Therefore, as we encounter New Testament texts through our beginning language study, there will be opportunity to illustrate what difference it makes to engage the text in its original language. Knowledge of Greek will forever enrich your personal reading and study of the New Testament. If this course is successful, you will leave excited to use Greek in your everyday life of faith.
