We've compiled sample budgets based on information from students and other trustworthy sources. While everyone's expenses will be different and the cost of living changes all the time, this information may help you plan ahead.

Sample Budget: Living Expenses

Please note that this budget is based on the most current information we were able to obtain from current students and other trusted sources, but that some rates are approximate and/or subject to change. (Last update: July 2022)

BC Medical Insurance

BC residents (citizens and permanent residents) are not required to pay MSP premiums.

International students are required to pay a health fee of $75 per month.

Canadian Car Insurance (ICBC) $1000–$2500 per year
Miscellaneous (clothing, entertainment, etc.) $150 per month per person
Start-up costs Budget at least $575 extra*

*It is wise to budget more money for the first month or so to cover any potential unexpected costs. For example, some students end up paying for temporary accommodation, renting a car to look for permanent housing, buying items to set up their new home etc.

The Dean of Students Office receives some donations of good quality household items to help new students set up a home. To see what is available, look for the "Household Giveaway" area at Regent the week before Orientation and during the Orientation week.
