Worship & Spiritual Formation

Regent hosts a weekly Chapel gathering every Tuesday, and we offer a number of regular prayer and retreat opportunities for students throughout the academic year.

Introduction

An emphasis on gathered worship and spiritual formation has deep roots in Regent's history. Our community seeks to participate in the life of the Spirit throughout our time at Regent—in the classroom, in the library, in the chapel, and in the atrium. While we recognize that we are called to abide in Christ and worship God in everything we do, we also set aside times and places to be attentive to the Spirit's abiding presence and offer our worship to the Triune God together.

Tuesday Chapel

Fall/Winter: Tuesdays, 11:15–12:15 pm
Spring/Summer: Tuesdays, 11:45 am–12:30 pm

Weekly chapel services form the heart of Regent’s spiritual life together. Every Tuesday that class is in session, members of the Regent community—students, faculty, staff, and guests—gather for worship. When the pressure of student life gets intense, Chapel can serve as a kind of mini-retreat, a place to recover perspective, share joys and concerns, and encourage each other in maturing faith.

Our Chapel gatherings are also attended by members of the wider community, students dropping in from UBC, and visitors to our campus. All are welcome!

Students, staff, and faculty are also invited to participate in Community Groups or Trios. Community Groups typically meet for lunch every Tuesday after Chapel.

A Community Group led by the Worship Coordinator and made up of students, faculty, and staff, works together to review, plan, and facilitate Chapel each week.

Kentro: A Community Pause

Kentro is an intentional spiritual practice to which everyone in the Regent community is welcome. At 1:30 pm each Monday, anyone who would like to participate is invited to gather in the atrium for a short time of silence and group prayer.

Typically lasting no more than 10 minutes, Kentro provides an opportunity for us to pause as a community—students, staff, and faculty—at the beginning of the week and to re-centre ourselves on the presence and work of God in and around us.

To participate, just head to the atrium when you hear the chime. Come enjoy time to breathe and time to pray, plus tea and a cookie.

Worship Space

The James Houston Prayer Chapel, located on Regent's ground floor, is available for individual and group prayer. A weekly midday prayer gathering happens here every Wednesday from 12:30-1:00 pm in the Fall and Winter terms. To book this room in advance, please contact [email protected].

Local Church Participation

We hope that all of our students will worship and participate in a church community during their time at Regent.

If you're looking for a local church, resources on church communities in Vancouver are provided at New Student Orientation and are also available with the Orientation materials on Moodle.
