Chinese Studies

Regent Colleges serves as an ideal meeting place for Chinese and Western scholars to engage in cross-cultural dialogue about Christianity and culture.

Chinese Studies at Regent College

In recent decades, Vancouver has become an attractive destination for Chinese visitors, including intellectuals pursuing scholarly research. Regent College provides a number of opportunities for Chinese scholars to explore various aspects of Western culture—including Christianity—through research, publications, and courses.

Scholars in Residence

Regent has a long history of hosting scholars from major Chinese universities who are pursuing research projects related to culture, religion, and other fields of study.

Publications

Journal: Regent Review of Christian Thought

Since 1993, we have published an academic journal devoted exclusively to dialogue between Christian faith and Chinese culture. Many Chinese scholars publish their research results or join in academic discussions in this journal, which is read broadly in Chinese academic circles. In 2005, in order to increase the influence of the journal, we moved its publication to China and renamed it the Regent Review of Christian Thought. The Review is published biannually by Shanghai People's Publishers and distributed throughout China. It has been included in key databases used by leading Chinese universities and institutions, such as the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI).

Monograph Series

We also occasionally publish books on topics exploring Christianity in Chinese contexts.

Regent College faculty members frequently teach summer courses at leading universities throughout China. Current and former faculty members who have taught in China through this program include Edwin Hui, Carl Armerding, Loren Wilkinson, Craig Gay, Ross Hastings, Iwan Russell-Jones, and Matthew Lynch.
