Jerry Hwang
About
Rev. Dr. Jerry Hwang joined the Regent College faculty as Academic Dean and Professor of Old Testament in October 2025. Before coming to Regent, he served as a faculty member at Trinity Christian College in the Chicago area. From 2010 to 2023, he served as a missionary with OMF International seconded to Singapore Bible College, where he served first as an Old Testament faculty member and later as Academic Dean. Before beginning his academic career, Dr. Hwang worked as an IT professional and as a pastor in both Chinese and multicultural churches.
Dr. Hwang has a deep sense of God’s vocational call on him as a Christian educator. He has published widely in Old Testament and theological studies, with an emphasis on the Pentateuch and prophetic literature, mission studies, and the contextualization of biblical theology in Asian contexts. He is the co-editor (with Angukali Rotokha) of Exploring the Old Testament in Asia: Evangelical Perspectives and the author of Contextualization and the Old Testament: Between Asian and Western Perspectives (both published in 2022 by Asia Theological Association/Langham Literature). He has written commentaries on Hosea (Zondervan) and Jeremiah (Crossway), and is currently working on a commentary on Job (Wipf & Stock) as well as editing the forthcoming volume, The Old Testament Around the World (Baker). He serves as Executive Editor of the Evangelical Review of Theology (a journal published by the World Evangelical Alliance), and is a member of the New Living Translation Bible Translation Committee.
Dr. Hwang is married to Jackie Hwang, who is a PhD candidate in World Christianity at the University of Edinburgh, and continues to serve with OMF International as Intercultural Research & Training Coordinator. They have three children.
