Call to Worship | Psalm 9:7-11

Based on "A Liturgy for Inauguration Day" by David O. Taylor

The Lord reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne.
He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness.
The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord,
do not abandon those who search for you.

Sing praises to the Lord who reigns in Jerusalem!
Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds!

All Creatures Of Our God And King

German hymn tune: Lasst Uns Erfreuen | Words by St. Francis of Assisi (Translated by William Henry Draper)

All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O Praise Him, O Praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Thou rushing wind that art so strong
ye clouds that sail in heav’n along
O Praise Him, Alleluia!
Thou rising morn in praise rejoice
Ye lights of evening, find a voice
O Praise Him, O Praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

All ye who are of tender heart
Forgiving others, take your part
Sing his praises, alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear
praise God and on Him cast your care
O Praise Him, O Praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Let all things their Creator bless
And worship Him in humbleness
O Praise Him, Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son
and praise the Spirit, Three in one
O Praise Him, O Praise Him
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Prayer of Orientation

Because you were born fully God and fully human,
    you overcame the violence
that separates us from our true identity as children of God.
Draw us into your love, Christ Jesus,
    and deliver us from fear.

Because you ate with tax collectors and sinners,
    you overcame the violence
    of discrimination and exclusion.
Draw us into your love, Christ Jesus,
    and deliver us from fear.

Because you made the blind to see and the lame to walk,
    you overcame the violence
    of victimization and powerlessness.
Draw us into your love, Christ Jesus,
    and deliver us from fear.

Because you taught your followers to pray for their enemies,
    you overcame the violence
    of hatred and judgment.
Draw us into your love, Christ Jesus,
    and deliver us from fear.

Because you gave yourself over to suffering and death,
you overcame the violence of retribution and blame.
Draw us into your love, Christ Jesus,
    and deliver us from fear.

Because you were raised to life on the third day,
you exposed the lie that violence
is the most effective way to confront evil.
Draw us into your love, Christ Jesus,
    and deliver us from fear.

Because you have left us with the joyful promise of your return,
    you overcame the violence
    of hopelessness and despair.
Draw us into your love, Christ Jesus,
    and deliver us from fear.

He Shall Reign

© 2008 Tom Wuest

Come broken, come captive
Come all you who mourn
O groaning creation, rejoice
A child, a savior
Our healing he brings
What freedom! What consolation!

He shall reign (He shall reign), He shall reign
He shall reign (He shall reign), He shall reign

Él reinará (Él reinará), Él reinará
Él reinará (Él reinará), Él reinará

He’ll order his kingdom
With justice and peace
O merciful one, O Lamb of God
All nations, all people
All heaven and earth
Will bow down and to him proclaim

He shall reign (He shall reign), He shall reign
He shall reign (He shall reign), He shall reign

   Atawala (Atawala) (Atawala)

Poem | Our Prayers Break On God

A Poem by Luci Shaw

Our prayers break on God like waves,
and he an endless shore,
and when the seas evaporate
and oceans are no more
and cries are carried in the wind
God hears and answers every sound
as he has done before.

Our troubles eat at God like nails.
He feels the gnawing pain
on souls and bodies. He never fails
but reassures he’ll heal again,
again, again, again and yet again.

Prayers Of The People | Kyrie Eleison

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy
Lord have mercy
Christ have mercy

Breath of God

© 2017 Tom Wuest

O Breath of God, you stir our hearts
We’re weary with longing for you
Come raise our dead, mend every breach
We’re weary with longing for you

   Blessed is the King
Who comes in the name of the Lord
Who comes in the name of the Lord
   (Repeat)

Yeshua, bring tidings of joy
We’re waiting with longing for you
Stand with your poor, the trodden down
We’re waiting with longing for you

   Blessed is the King
Who comes in the name of the Lord
Who comes in the name of the Lord
   (Repeat)

Restore all things, remove the veil
We’re watching with longing for you
We take this bread, we drink this cup
We’re watching with longing for you

   Blessed is the King
Who comes in the name of the Lord
Who comes in the name of the Lord
   (Repeat)

Prayer for the World

The Kingdom of God

© Ateliers et Presses de Taizé | (Romans 14:17-19)

The Kingdom of God is justice and peace
And joy in the Holy Spirit
Come, Lord, and open in us
The gates of your Kingdom

The Lord's Prayer

Let us pray with confidence as our Saviour has taught us,

Our Father, who art in heaven
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory
for ever and ever.
Amen.
