Prayers of the People

Wounded Embodiment by Esther Doerksen

When the weight of the world’s conflicts fills us with worry
Fill our thoughts with your peace so our hope is renewed
When divisions in the nations reach too close to our homelands
Be our shepherd of wisdom speaking through us to others
When the way forward is uncertain with shadows at every turn
Remind us the way forward is servant-led community
When we feel discouraged or lost in despair and distress
Our help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth

When storms are breaking and fog is blinding us, be our refuge and safety
The sacred scarred hands who shaped the world hold us close
The peace of Christ envelops and embraces all of us
We are given new ways to think as we put on more of Jesus
We are invited to join in the shared work of servant hearted love
So we may enter the rest of the Spirit’s embodied presence
Are we willing to embrace all of our humanity as Jesus did?
It is in our humanity where fullness of life is found

Can sadness and joy make a home together in us?
There is courageous work involved and this work takes time
We may not know what the first step is and that’s ok
Help us embrace our wounds as marks of being human
Bring others to come and walk along beside us
The scars of Jesus are reminders to trust
As we learn to lament, may it lead to joy
Joyful community embracing and embodying humanity
Amen.
