Narrative Theology & Storytelling
Course Description
The course is designed to develop students’ understanding and appreciation of the category of story and storytelling in the practice of evangelical theology. Taking a historical perspective, the course will examine the rise of narrative theology, its diversification in different schools, and the efforts presently underway to unify these different schools. Then, moving beyond historical interests, the course will seek to identify the weaknesses and strengths of the narrative approach to the practice of theology. It will also offer some suggestions as to how the positive insights of narrative theology and storytelling in theology are being applied to identity formation, community building, preaching, counselling, and other evangelical practices.
