APPL/THEO 557
The Cross, the Call & the Church
Course Description
This course is an exploration of exegetical, historical, and applied theology in order to ground both discipleship and ministry in the cross. Drawing primarily on two key theological resources—a theological-narratival reading of the Gospel of John and Luther’s theology of the cross—students will examine how cross-centered principles can shape identity, ministry, and practice. Building upon a biblical and theological foundation, students will grapple with practical scenarios, case studies, and reflections on their own ministry contexts to examine how the cross can shape ministry practices and paradigms—from navigating conflict to discipling and leading others within the church. Students will emerge equipped with a personal theology of ministry that finds strength in weakness, hope in suffering, and authenticity in vulnerability.| Offered | 2026 Winter |
