Accounting Assistant
Part time, (16 hours per week), permanent
Reporting to the Accountant, the Accounting Assistant will be responsible for Accounts Payable and assist with other accounting tasks for Regent’s $9 million operating budget. The role will oversee the Finance Clerk and manage banking and finance administration. This position will work within defined policies and will have the opportunity to shape and refine the College’s procedures with respect to payments. In addition, the role will administratively support the Board level finance committees of Regent College and its Foundation.
Rate: $27-31/hr
Responsibilities:
- Oversee Accounts Payable and the Finance Clerk in maintaining timely payments, procedures documentation, efficient use of available payment methods, and monitoring amounts due
- Complete month-end accounting procedures, including reconciliation of corporate credit card
- Administer corporate credit cards and credit limits
- Administer Certificates of Insurance
- Perform ad hoc counts for departmental petty cash
- Undertake ad hoc projects in relation to streamlined banking and payment provider services and a new general ledger migration
- Assist with the annual external audit
- Undertake company secretarial duties for Regent College Finance Committee and the Regent College 2000 Foundation Board of Directors—key tasks include meeting arrangements and minute-taking
- Undertake other duties as assigned, including periodic analysis of spending against budget
Qualifications:
- Understands and supports the ethos and mission of Regent College as articulated in the Theological Position (http://www.regent-college.edu/about-us/theological-position)
- Qualified in bookkeeping or accounting
- CPA designation preferred, not required
- Highly organized, detail oriented, and accurate
- Has excellent written communication skills
- Maintains confidentiality and integrity
Skills and Experience
- Experience with Microsoft general ledger systems an asset (Great Plains or Business Central)
- Intermediate excel skills required
