Video: Art, Conflict and Healing: Case Studies from Northern Ireland, China and Ukraine
Throughout the history of art, some of the greatest works—Goya’s Third of May, 1808, Picasso’s Guernica, Chagall’s White Crucifixion—have been made in response to conflict. In this lecture we will look at some contemporary artists who respond to conflicts that affect them or have affected them in the past: the Bogside Artists in relation to the Troubles in Northern Ireland, Ai Weiwei in relation to China’s oppressive regime, and Ukrainian artists in relation to the war with Russia.
