Financial Aid and Student Accounts Officer
Full Time, Permanent
Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the Financial Aid/Student Accounts Officer administrates the processing of multiple government and institutional financial aid programs including student loans, scholarships, and bursary programs that promote financial accessibility and student retention. The Financial Aid/Student Accounts Officer oversees the receipt and processing of student payments and refunds, and oversees and ensures that financial aid is distributed.
Salary Range: $49,500-53,500
Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Accounts:
- Correspond with students in a timely manner regarding student loans, financial aid, and other student finance related matters
- Post payments to student accounts (GP) ensuring they are accurate and timely
- Receive online payments (e-transfer, Pay My Tuition, Convera) and post to student accounts
- Research student loan policies and Regent’s own internal policies to answer student questions
- Assist finance with month end and end of year work
Financial Aid:
- Review and process financial aid applications beginning in February and March and then continuing throughout the year
- Informs students on the financial aid application process and communicate with students on the status of their applications
- As part of the Financial Aid Committee, administer bursaries and scholarships and serve as the Secretary
- Handle financial aid appeals
Student Loans:
- Maintain Canadian Student Loans (CSL) eligibility with the BC Government. Update Agreements (Participation Agreements, and PEDS) and sign all CSL loans and forms from all provinces
- Maintain US Student Loans (USL) eligibility for Title 4 to receive federal funding
- Complete annual USL audit
Qualifications:
- Understands and supports the ethos and mission of Regent College as articulated in the Theological Position (http://www.regent-college.
edu/about- us/theological-position) - Undergraduate degree required. A degree in business or finance is desirable
- 1-2 years’ experience working a student facing role. Experience in Financial Aid is considered desirable
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation
- Has experience working with both Canadian and US student loans is desired
- Is highly detail and process oriented, organized, and able to prioritize tasks efficiently
- Has strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Must be comfortable giving difficult news to students in a tactful, diplomatic way
- Hold to high privacy and confidentiality standards
- Must have an intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting
