Our free summer Evening Public Lectures feature a wide range of professors, both guests and Regent regulars. Enjoy delving deep into a pressing issue with a wise guide; then brave the mic to ask your burning question. Better (and cheaper) than a night at the movies.

Due to closure of the College related to Covid-19, all of our Summer 2020 lectures will be streamed online.

Lecture Description: Jesus Christ holds a most prominent place in popular cultures across Africa south of the Sahara. This lecture explores the “lived Christology” of African Christians gleaned from qualitative research and from contextual evidence, including artwork and worship. Two central themes emerge: Jesus as Immanuel—God with us—in Africa, and Jesus as the “image of the invisible God” (Col. 1:15). Conclusions highlight the significance of these informal Christologies to contemporary Christianity, particularly regarding the intrinsic relation between popular and academic theologies.

Diane Stinton joined the Regent College faculty in 2010, serving a double role as Dean of Students and Associate Professor of Missions Studies and World Christianity. She specializes in the study of world Christianity, particularly in theological developments in the global South. She has taught theology for many years in Kenya, where she helped launch two new programs: an MTh in African Christianity at Daystar University, and an MTh in World Christianity at the Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (NEGST). She is the author of Jesus of Africa: Voices of Contemporary Christology and the editor of African Theology on the Way: Current Conversations.

Dr. Stinton will be teaching the class "Faces of Jesus: Perspectives on Christology from the Global South" from May 11–May 15, 2020 as part of our 2020 Spring Programs.
