Join us for this special lunch time lecture, in which Dr. Grace Hui Liang will offer two case studies of biblical commentaries from the Late Qing Dynasty. The examples of Karl F. A. Gutzlaff (1803-1851), a German Lutheran missionary, and Rev. Ho Tsun-Sheen (1817-1871), a Chinese Protestant theologian and biblical commentator, will illuminate early examples of a Chinese biblical hermeneutic and the ways the hermeneutic traditions in Chinese culture have affected the reception of Christian scriptures among Chinese converts.
Dr. Liang was a participant in the Regent College-Chinese Mainland University Joint Training Program for PhD students in 1999-2000. She now teaches biblical courses at the School of Humanities, Zhejiang University, and is also a core member of the Insitutite of Christianity and Cross-cultural Studies. Her main areas of research include Old Testament wisdom literature, Chinese biblical interpretation and theological studies, and early Protestant missionary writings in China.
All are welcome to bring their lunch, enjoy the lecture, and engage in a brief Q & A period afterward with time permitting.
