REGENT COLLEGE, an evangelical graduate school of Christian studies affiliated with the University of British Columbia located in Vancouver, British Columbia, seeks a recognized and collaborative leader for the position of Professor of Chinese Christian Studies and Director of the Chinese Studies Program to begin on August 1, 2018.

As a faculty member in Chinese Christian Studies, this individual will be able to demonstrate an ability to engage students at the interface between Chinese and western theological and intellectual traditions. They will have experience with scholarly interactions between China and the western world, and be able to guide Chinese doctoral students pursuing biblical and theological studies on exchange in Canada. The successful candidate will also be able to work comfortably within the sphere of advanced theological education in China and Canada.

As Director of the Chinese Studies program, he or she will work under the Dean of Chinese Studies to provide leadership in planning, developing and implementing the mission and programs of Chinese Studies at Regent College.

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in a discipline relevant to Regent’s curriculum. Expertise in Biblical or Theological studies, including a deep understanding of Chinese engagement with Christian theology, will be particularly welcomed. They will have a minimum of five years teaching experience at the post-secondary level, and should also be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin. They will be able to demonstrate a record of academic leadership at the post-secondary level. Experience in organizing academic conferences and/or exchange programs will be a particular asset, as will experience in Three-Self Church contexts in China.

Candidates must be able to subscribe to the College’s Theological Position, which contains a Doctrinal Statement and a Moral Vision Statement (see http://www.regent-college.edu/about-us/theological-position). Up to two months of travelling in China will be expected each year. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be offered a five-year full-time contract, renewable upon review.
