Hospitality & Soup Coordinator

Part-time, fixed term
Opening date: Tuesday, September 10, 2019
Closing date: Friday, September 27, 2019

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students, the Hospitality & Soup Coordinator will serve the College by coordinating the preparation and cooking of Tuesday soup lunches, food planning and preparation for other Dean of Students office events, and act as the point person for the use and management of the Rita Houston Kitchen. The person will also oversee a group of caterers who prepare food for events. 

Employment dates: Immediately - May 30, 2020.

Hours: Up to 16 hour per week for Soup Lunch (Monday & Tuesdays, Fall & Winter terms); Up to 150 hours total for other catering needs

Rate: $15.60/hour plus 4% vacation pay

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan menu and purchase food for Tuesday soup lunches
  • Prepare and cook soup, with the help of the Soup Assistant and volunteers
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean and following FoodSafe regulations at all times
  • Reconcile receipts and money to the Finance department
  • Monitor and purchase general supplies for the kitchen (flour, sugar, napkins, paper plates, soap, spices etc.)
  • Maintain storage room space for storing kitchen supplies and equipment
  • Deep clean kitchen once per term
  • Find catering helpers to assist in food preparation for College events
  • Assist in catering events throughout the year
  • Communicate with the Assistant Dean of Students if there are any concerns regarding kitchen supplies and equipment
  • Communicate with facilities team if there are concerns about cleanliness of the kitchen, laundry or any maintenance issues with large equipment (e.g. dishwasher, grease trap etc)
  • Follow the Rita Houston Kitchen procedures, as outlined by the Dean of Students’ Office

The ideal candidate will be a person who:

  • Understands and supports the ethos and mission of Regent College as articulated in the Theological Position (
  • Loves food and people, with a heart for hospitality
  • Displays a high level of self-motivation and has excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Holds the highest standards for food safety and cleanliness
  • Is able to plan, coordinate and prepare high quality food for Soup Tuesday and catering events
  • Can lead others in stressful situations
  • Has the ability to oversee a team and motivate them to work to the best of their abilities and in collaboration with one another
  • Can assist others in the planning and food preparation for different events
  • Can handle finances, receipts, and reports with accuracy and timeliness
  • Access to a car would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience with planning, preparing and serving food for large groups considered an asset
  • FoodSafe level 1 certification is considered an asset
